The Ethicon™ Chromic Gut Suture (REF 687) is a sterile, absorbable surgical suture manufactured from purified connective tissue (chromic-treated gut) and designed to provide predictable tensile strength retention with controlled absorption. The chromic treatment prolongs absorption time and reduces tissue reactivity compared to plain gut sutures.
This configuration features a 5-0 (1.5 Ph. Eur.) suture mounted on a P-3 reverse-cutting needle, with an 18-inch (45 cm) suture length. The reverse-cutting needle geometry supports precise penetration and secure tissue approximation, making this suture well suited for general soft-tissue approximation and ligation in procedures where absorbable support is indicated.
